Khan to learn if Peterson can fight today
AMIR KHAN’S promoter expects to learn today if the light welterweight’s 19 May world-title fight in Las Vegas against Lamont Peterson is to go ahead after the latter tested positive for a synthetic testosterone.
Richard Schaefer claimed American Peterson tested negative in a separate test in April, despite saying he had abnormally high levels of the substance in a urine sample on 19 March, and that the fighter’s lawyers were making a case to the Nevada State Athletic Commission to grant him a licence to fight.
“Peterson’s legal representatives will be submitting their paperwork today, explaining themselves and why there was a substance [in Peterson’s urine],” said Schaefer.
“Based on those statements from Peterson, the Nevada Commission will rule on if in fact there will be a fight or not. Amir is obviously fully aware of the situation.”
