Khan has sights on Hatton
NEW WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan says he is willing to put his friendship on the line to fight fellow British hero Ricky Hatton.
Khan makes the first defence of his title against mandatory challenger Dmitriy Salita in Newcastle on Saturday.
But the Bolton fighter admits he has his sights set on locking horns with “The Hitman” despite the pair being close friends for many years.
“It is not nonsense, it is a fight that could happen because we are both at the same weights, I am a world champion now, Ricky has come back into the game again from retirement and he wants another shot at a world title,” Khan said.
“Let’s just see how things go – it is all up to the promotion side of it. It would be a big British fight, a fight that the British fans want to see.
“It is just a shame we are at the same weight because we are good friends. But business is business and sometimes you have to fight your friends.”
