Keane held talks over Celtic job
REPUBLIC of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill has revealed his assistant Roy Keane has been contacted by Celtic over their managerial vacancy.
Keane, 42, spent the final season of his playing career at Celtic, before managing Sunderland and Ipswich.
O’Neill said: “I had a call the other day from Dermot Desmond [Celtic’s main shareholder] wanting to speak to Roy if it was possible.
“I kind of felt when I took him on in the first place that over the course of the next 18 months to two years that this thing was likely to happen.”
Ireland take on England’s World Cup opponents Italy in a friendly tomorrow, before meeting Costa Rica and Portugal next month.
