Katsidis ready to consider Hatton fight as the Hitman nears announcing opponent
FORMER world-title challenger Michael Katsidis is ready to consider being the opponent for Ricky Hatton’s comeback fight, though the fighter’s agent insists that any relevant discussions have yet to take place.
Hatton has already confirmed that his opponent and the undercard details for his 24 November ring return are to be announced on Friday and in addition to America’s Paulie Malignaggi, Katsidis is thought to be under consideration.
“At this stage there have been no discussions,” said the Australian’s agent, Matthew Tripp.
“But it is something we would consider depending on the purse and depending on the weight.
“It wouldn’t be a problem to fight in Manchester. Michael has been over to Britain and he’s won two world titles over there.
“We have had nothing from their camp at the moment. But 24 November would give us enough time – Michael is in full training at the moment.”
An agreement between Hatton and Katsidis would represent the conclusion of a long period of fluctuating interest in a fight between the two. Katsidis was thought to be under consideration by Hatton on the eve of his 2009 defeat to Manny Pacquiao, while the Australian said he was still interested before losing to Ricky Burns in 2011.
