Jose Mourinho coy over Manchester United team for Fenerbahce Europa League match
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is remaining tight-lipped over his selection plans for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Fenerbahce.
The Group A fixture comes just three days after Monday’s 0-0 draw at Liverpool and three days before another big Premier League fixture, against Mourinho’s former club Chelsea on Sunday.
Temptation to rotate his squad is balanced by a need for a win against Fenerbahce, however, with United having taken just three points from their first three Europa League matches.

“It’s a big team and a difficult opponent,” said Mourinho. “We are going to play with a team that has chances to win and if we play with a team that is not good and strong, we don’t have a chance.”
Pressed on whether out-of-favour Wayne Rooney could make a first start in five games, he added: “I don’t want to give you the team, honestly. Wayne is working well, he’s positive, he’s a good example. We count on him to start or be on the bench.”
Fenerbahce’s visit could see former United favourite Robin van Persie face his former side for the first time since leaving for Turkey in summer 2015, although he is not sure to start.
