Joe Biden to visit the Queen at Windsor Castle in his first overseas trip
Joe Biden will meet with the Queen next week at Windsor Castle after he finishes at the G7 meeting in Cornwall.
Biden’s first overseas trip will be to the UK for the three-day G7 summit, before he visits Belgium and Switzerland.
The US President and his wife Dr Jill Biden will meet Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle on Sunday, 15 June after he finishes at the G7 summit.
Biden’s press secretary Jen Psaki said: “This trip will highlight America’s commitment to restoring our alliances, revitalizing the Transatlantic relationship, and working in close cooperation with our allies and multilateral partners to address global challenges and better secure America’s interests.”
Biden is the 14th US President during Queen Elizabeth’s reign and he will be the 13th to meet the monarch.
The only one who did not was Lyndon B Johnson.
The Queen last met with a US President in 2019 when Donald Trump made a full state visit in the final days of Theresa May’s premiership.
Trump broke royal etiquette during that trip when he walked in front of the Queen as the pair inspected a line of royal guards.
Biden is also due to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 16 June while in Switzerland in a bid to cool tensions between the two countries.
