Jobless figures and MPC report at centre stage – London Week Ahead
BY THE looks of this week’s economic calendar, traders thinking of taking off early for their Christmas holidays may be forced to rethink their travel plans.
In the UK the minutes of the Monetary Policy Committee’s (MPC) last meeting will also be scrutinised. However, the report which has the greatest potential to move markets is Wednesday’s employment report.
Leading up to Wednesday, HSBC’s Chinese manufacturing sector purchasing managers’ survey results, which are due out on the previous day, may set the mood, given the on-going concerns regarding the state of Asia’s largest economy.
Because the City is winding down for the holiday season, there are fewer company trading statements.
Today, Carpetright, Clear Leisure, Cohort, IMImobile and Scholium Group all issue trading statements.
Tomorrow, Imagination Technologies Group, Fletcher King, Hermes Pacific Investments, Eredene Capital, Northern Bear, Betfair Group and Domino Printing Sciences report, while there are trading announcements from National Express Group and Petrofac.
Tomorrow morning will also see the release of the UK’s consumer price index, producer price index and retail price index.
On Wednesday, apart from the minutes from last month’s MPC meeting, claimant count rate and the unemployment figures, Dixons Carphone, Marechale Capital, Sutherland Health Group, Armour Group, Electronic Data Processing, Provexis, Trakm8 Holdings and Marston’s report. Saga issues a trading statement, too.
On Thursday, Carnival, John Lewis Of Hungerford, Braveheart Investment Group, InterBulk Group, Jersey Electricity, Vela Technologies, Tricor, Igas Energy, LXB Retail Properties issue its interims and finals, while easyHotel publishes its annual report.
UK internet retail and retail sales will also be published.
On Friday, Character Group issues its annual report, while the public sector finances are released. Also reporting on Friday are Marshall Monteagle, Rockhopper Exploration, Optare, Sirius Minerals, CH Bailey, African Consolidated Resources, Gusbourne, Lombard Capital, Gledhow Investments, Galileo Resources , SPARK Ventures, Opsec Security Group, Enegi Oil, Daily Internet, Anglo African Agriculture, Goodwin, MNC Strategic Investments.
