In pictures: The world’s tallest tower has just been unveiled – and it’s going to be in Dubai again
If you thought the Burj Khalifa was big, prepare yourselves for a new tower that will leave the Dubai landmark in its shadow.
Developer Emaar Properties has just unveiled a rival to snatch the title as the world's tallest tower. No final decision has been taken on how tall the Tower will be, but it will be at least 2,730 ft high, meaning it should enter the record books when it is completed in four years.
The Burj Khalifa is 2,716 ft tall.
Designed by Spanish/Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava, the super-tower wil cost $1bn (£700m) to build, and will be part of the Dubai Creek Harbour project. Construction on the lily-inspired building begins in July.
Today the developer and Knightsbridge agent Harrods Estate launched the marketing for apartments in the wider "mega-project" to London's second home owners and investors.
The Tower will contain a boutique hotel and the top 20 floors will be designated for retail and tourism, comprising shops, restaurants, function rooms and VIP observation garden decks. The main observation room will be known as The Pinnacle Room, which will boast fully glazed rotating balconies that extend outward, rotating outside the main skin of the tower.
Around the tower Emaar is launching apartments, villas and penthouses priced from £184,135. They are aimed at people looking for "a holiday home, Dubai pied-a-terre or rental investment".
Ahmad Al Matrooshi, managing director of Emaar Properties said: “Just as Burj Khalifa serves as the centerpiece of Downtown Dubai, The Tower will position Dubai Creek Harbour as one of the most desired residential and leisure destinations in the city, providing residents and visitors with a modern and luxurious environment in which to live, work and entertain.
"We believe UK end user second home purchasers, investors and tourists will be fascinated by the iconic tower and drawn to this new Riviera we are creating in Dubai. We are undertaking this London launch and exhibition because each year growing numbers of UK home buyers, investors and tourists choose Dubai as their destination to live, invest, holiday and do business."
