I’m not leaving this sofa: Takeaway orders soar during England goal-feast
Football fans made over one million orders on JustEat over the course of Saturday evening as England waltzed past Ukraine in Rome.
The match kicking off in the primetime slot of 8pm on a balmy Saturday evening encouraged 2,500 orders being placed per minute.
The most popular order was burgers, followed by pizza. While the region that drove the most traffic was the North West followed by London and the North East.
The company are locked in a battle for takeaway supremacy with Deliveroo and UberEats, all of which have seen significant growth during the pandemic.
JustEat expects the figures to be matched for England’s semi final clash with Denmark on Wednesday evening.
Denmark have grown to be the tournament darlings following the shocking incident involving Christian Eriksen in their first match of the tournament against Finland. They promise to pose England a much tougher test than Ukraine mustered.
Should England negotiate their way past Denmark, they will face either Italy or Spain at Wembley on Sunday.
