I may skip the tour to Bangladesh, says Strauss
CAPTAIN Andrew Strauss has admitted he could take a long-awaited rest when England tour Bangladesh early next year.
Strauss has had a frantic schedule since taking over as skipper in January, spearheading a home and away series against the West Indies, the successful Ashes campaign, a one-day drubbing against Australia and the Champions Trophy.
He still has to take England to South Africa before the year is out but has been tipped to sit out the trip to Bangladesh, one of the game’s lesser lights, in February. Strauss insists it is too early to say whether he will tour, but concedes he could take a break.
“I can’t guarantee anything, I don’t know what will happen in the next few months. We only select one tour at a time,” Strauss said.
“The South Africa tour is a massive one and then we’ve got Bangladesh in February and March. When we select that we’ll sit down and see where we are as a side with injuries, niggles and all that stuff.”
Alastair Cook, widely seen as a future captain, is tipped to stand in for Strauss is he does miss the tour, but the skipper said his controversial predecessor Kevin Pietersen could not be discounted.
“I certainly wouldn’t rule it out,” he said. “He’s got some attributes that make him a very good captain.”
