Horse Racing Betting Tips: Honey looks a sweet bet to land the London Mile Final
ON A day when Haydock is staging a Group One sprint, it’s a little surprising that the highest-rated horse running in the UK tomorrow is in Kempton’s Group Three September Stakes (2.05pm).
But this isn’t just any horse, it’s Enable, John Gosden’s star filly who is making her first appearance since winning last year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
If connections were hoping for an easy first run back, they’ll have to think again with Sir Michael Stoute’s King George runner-up Crystal Ocean a confirmed runner.
His inclusion means that Enable will have to be somewhere near her best, and despite being off the track for almost a year I still think she’ll win.
Even though Stoute’s runner is likely to provide her with a serious test, he must concede 8lbs to the filly and I can see Enable’s class getting her through, even if she is lacking race fitness.
Expect Frankie Dettori to be doing his trademark flying dismount before literally flying up to Haydock in a helicopter to partner James Garfield in the Sprint Cup.
Enable isn’t a betting proposition at 1/4, but HONEY MAN is at 4/1 with Coral in the London Mile Final (3.15pm).
Simon Crisford’s three-year-old is on a hat-trick having beaten Mystic Flight at Chelmsford back in July, before landing a qualifier for this race over course and distance last month.
He produced an impressive burst of speed in the final furlong that day and showed a good attitude to hold off the late challenge of Hakeem who reopposes here.
A case can be made for the runner-up reversing the form with a 4lb pull at the weights, but Honey Man is improving and could well be a Group horse in the making.
