Hong Kong Racing Tips: Sun Of Makfi looking to go back-to-back
JOCKEY Chad Schofield bounced back into the limelight with a double at Sha Tin on Sunday following a week of self-isolation with a bout of chickenpox.
The former Australian champion apprentice and Group 1-winning jockey took his seasonal winning tally to 26, which is well down on previous years.
This was due to the stylish and consistent 27-year-old suffering at the hands of the stewards with numerous suspensions and various injuries which kept him out of action.
Schofield, who is an excellent judge of pace and very strong in a finish, has an ideal opportunity to show his prowess again when he climbs aboard SUN OF MAKFI in the Hau Tak Handicap(1:45pm).
This ex-New Zealand galloper could be named the winner a long way from home after outpointing his rivals over the course and distance early last month.
A 6lb penalty doesn’t do his victory justice, and from a favourable draw, he is set for another ideal journey before Schofield presses the button for glory early in the home straight.
His principal threat is Super Fast, who led from start to finish in a smart time on the all-weather surface last month but also has good form on turf.
A hefty 9lb penalty for that win is partly off set by the booking of apprentice jockey Jerry Chau, whose 5lb claiming allowance is worth its weight in gold.
