Heston’s Dinner scores top for best meal out
The Capitalist’s hectic schedule means she is no stranger to the odd business breakfast, so it was no surprise yesterday to see one of this column’s favourite morning haunts, The Wolseley, named as best restaurant for both business and breakfast.
The breakfast hotspot pipped both Mayfair’s The Square and City favourite The Don to the business number one spot, according to Harden’s 22nd annual survey of regular restaurant goers.
But fine dining isn’t all about business. Even the busy Capitalist manages to get out for the odd evening meal a deux. And for the best meal overall, the aptly-named Dinner from Heston Blumenthal is the place to go, according to Harden’s army of 7,500 reviewers.
The molecular gastronomist’s ascent breaks the Berkeley’s Marcus Wareing’s three-year reign as top dog. But Harden’s warns there’s no room for complacency as Dinner also creeps onto the annual survey’s list of shame for overpricing. Meat fruit and black foot pork chop could lose their allure once the novelty factor wears off, Harden’s warns. Overall, however these austerity-stricken times are proving no hindrance to eating out with 134 new restaurants opening in the year, up 25 per cent on last year.
