Heavyweight financiers kickstart hedge fund run by Soros alumni
TWO ex-Soros Fund Management bosses yesterday unveiled one of Asia’s biggest start-up hedge funds, after clinching $150m (£89.3m) of financial backing.
Kenneth Lee and Michael Yoshino – who worked at the firm founded by legendary investor George Soros – will launch Pleiad Investment Advisors this summer after being given cash by HS Group, a new firm founded by ex-Blackstone executive Michael Garrows and former Goldman Sachs director Johannes Kaps.
The deal is the maiden investment for HS, which was set up in Hong Kong last year to seed early stage hedge funds.
HS has a star-studded variety of backers, including V-Nee Yeh (pictured), who helped co-found one of Hong Kong’s biggest money managers Value Partners Group, which manages about $10.5bn.
V-Nee Yeh also currently chairs HS Group’s advisory board.
“The team’s unique culture and philosophy has been developed through lessons learned at some of the strongest pedigree investment firms in the world,” he said.
