Halsall grabs bronze in Barcelona
SWIMMING: Triumphant Francesca Halsall claimed Britain’s first swimming medal of the World Aquatics Championships in the 50m freestyle yesterday in Barcelona. The 23-year-old finished third in 24.30 seconds, behind Australian Cate Campbell (24.14) and Holland’s Ranomi Kromowidjojo (24.05). “A medal is nice but I wanted the gold so it’s bitter-sweet really,” said Halsall, fourth in Saturday’s butterfly final. “It’s not easy when you have a new coach so I’m really proud of myself.” Fellow Briton Gary Hunt secured silver in the high diving on Friday.
