Grant remaining positive despite Toon horror show

BELEAGUERED West Ham manager Avram Grant blamed a “bad day at the office” after a debut hat-trick from Leon Best plunged the Israeli’s tenure to a new low.
Grant (right) looks destined to be sacked after the Hammers sank back to the foot of the Premier League table, thanks to further goals from Kevin Nolan and Peter Lovenkrands.
The former Chelsea boss had earned a reprieve with encouraging results over Christmas and said: “I think it was a bad day in the office because in the last games we’ve played very well and got big points. It can happen sometimes.
“The players are sad about the situation but I don’t think they’ll be affected for the next game.”
West Ham captain Matthew Upson apologised to fans who made the long journey to the north east, only to be rewarded with an abject performance and heaviest defeat since January 2007.
