Goal-line technology set for imminent Premier League use
PREMIER League football finally appears to be set to benefit from the introduction of goal-line technology after its introduction was finally approved of by football’s law makers, the International Football Association Board.
World football’s governing body Fifa is satisfied that two separate systems – Hawk-Eye and GoalRef – fulfill the necessary criteria, and after their inauguration during December’s Fifa Club World Cup could be utilised in the Premier League from midway through the season.
“The Premier League has been a long-term advocate of goal-line technology,” read an official Premier League statement.
“We welcome today’s decision by IFAB and will engage in discussions with both Hawkeye and GoalRef in the near future with a view to introducing goal-line technology as soon as is practically possible.”
