Fulham sign up blockchain telecoms network World Mobile as principal commercial partner on three-year-deal

Fulham have signed World Mobile, a telecoms network that uses blockchain technology, as their new principal commercial partner.

The three-year deal sees World Mobile replace bookmaker BetVictor as the club’s main sponsor.

The agreement will see World Mobile appear on the shirts of the Fulham men’s, women’s and youth teams.

Fulham’s men will be hoping to mount another promotion challenge in the coming season, having slipped out of the Premier League and into the Championship.

World Mobile is a global mobile telecommunications network that aims to reach people in remote areas that do not have internet access.

The company uses blockchain technology and has its own cryptocurrency for rewarding users who operate connection hubs for their community.

World Mobile chief executive Micky Watkins told City A.M.: “This deal is one of many in the pipeline that will make World Mobile a global name in our mission to connect the unconnected and bank the unbanked.”

He added: “We are so excited to begin this partnership with Fulham FC. This partnership will help spread the word on our mission to connect Africa and beyond, giving everyone an opportunity to get involved.”

All change at Fulham for new season

Fulham chief executive Alistair Mackintosh said: “Fulham prides itself on its community-driven spirit. We support World Mobile’s vision to improve connectivity in lesser developed areas.”

Fulham will also begin the new season with a new manager in Marco Silva.

The former Everton, Watford and Hull City coach arrived in west London earlier this month to replace Scott Parker, who left by mutual consent and has since taken charge at Bournemouth.

Fulham’s men are due to kick off the 2021-22 campaign against Middlesbrough at Craven Cottage on Sunday 8 August.

The women’s team play in the London and South East Women’s Regional Football League.

The end of the club’s deal with BetVictor follows a trend of bookmakers exiting sports sponsorship.
