Froch-Groves rematch set for May
AN 80,000-strong crowd is expected at the highly-anticipated rematch between British super-middleweights Carl Froch and George Groves on 31 May, says promoter Eddie Hearn.
The pair produced a thrilling fight at the Manchester Arena last November, before Groves was prematurely stopped in the ninth round by referee Howard Foster, leading to immediate calls for Froch to defend his IBF and WBA belts again. A venue has not been chosen, but Hearn feels only the country’s largest stadiums, such as Wembley, Old Trafford, Twickenham and Emirates Stadium could cope with the demand for tickets.
“I believe this will be the biggest fight in British boxing history and I want to see how big we can make it because it appeals to everybody,” he said. “We’re looking at a crowd of up to 80,000 for this fight.”
