Former Ukip leader survives horror election plane crash
FORMER UK Independence party leader Nigel Farage was stable last night after surviving an air crash.
He was rushed to hospital yesterday after an airborne election stunt almost ended in tragedy.
The pilot lost control of a light aircraft the Buckingham constituency hopeful was using to tow a banner reading “Vote for your country – vote Ukip”.
He was dragged out of the wreckage semi-conscious and badly bruised after the plane flipped and hit the ground.
The pilot also miraculously survived but was in a serious condition last night.
Farage was forced to miss the count at the seat he was vying for with house of commons speaker John Bercow.
He issued a statement saying: “We’ve both had a miraculous escape. We are both very lucky to be alive.”
He will remain in hospital for several days with two broken ribs, a small chip to his spine and damage to his sternum.
Farage stood down as party leader last September to concentrate on the parliamentary battle. He was replaced by Lord Pearson.
