Former Centrica boss is named as a Red Knight
Former Centrica boss Sir Roy Gardner became the latest City figure to be named a “Red Knight” yesterday as the momentum for a fans’ buyout of Manchester United continues to gather pace.
He was a non-executive director at United between 2002-2005. He is also non-executive chairman of Plymouth Argyle. He joins City figures hoping to wrest control of the club from the Glazer family, including Jim O’Neill, chief economist at Goldman Sachs; Keith Harris head of Seymour Pierce; Paul Marshall, founder of the London hedge fund Marshall Wace; Mark Rawlinson, of law firm Freshfields and Richard Hytner, from Saatchi & Saatchi.
If the £1.25bn deal went ahead, the Glazers would almost triple the £272m they invested in 2005 to take control of the club.
