Former BBC director general Lord Birt made chair of Host
LORD Birt, the former BBC director general, was yesterday made chairman of Britain’s biggest internet hosting company Host Europe Group, amid an ongoing management shake-up at the UK-based firm.
Birt, who was director general from 1992 to 2000, will take up the non-executive role at the company next month.
Birt’s appointment comes just weeks after Host’s former chief executive Thomas Vollrath was quietly dropped by the firm’s new private equity owners and replaced by interim chief executive Patrick Pulvermuller.
Host was snapped up by UK buyout giant Cinven in July. In addition to the CEO swap, Host has also moved to take over two smaller rivals, domainfactory and Telefonica Germany Online Services.
“Host Europe is in an excellent position to respond to the rapidly developing and expanding needs of its many customers right across Europe,” Birt said.
