In-form Jarvis yard to land across-the- card double
NEWBURY stages a cracking looking card this afternoon and even though the Dubai Duty Free Cup may only be a Listed contest by name, it looks far more like a Group 1 affair. Delegator reappears for the first time since last November, but at the prices I’d far rather take a chance on Finjaan bouncing back with his stable now back amongst the winners.
However, the best bet on the card, if not the weekend, looks to be Michael Jarvis’ RAINBOW PEAK in the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial at 3.10pm. The son of Hernando will relish the step back up in trip and can make it four wins from four over distances of 10 furlongs or more.
The same stable can land an across-the-card double with WARM BREEZE in the 100,000 Tattersalls Millions Stakes over at Newmarket (4.10pm). The two-year-old daughter of Oasis Dream created a really good impression on her only racecourse appearance when bolting up by five lengths at Nottingham at the end of July. Scantily Clad, runner-up on that occasion, came out and won easily at Haydock earlier in the week, so that form now looks rock solid.
Make sure you keep an eye out for this afternoon’s William Hill Bronze Gold Cup at Ayr (4.30pm), as there will be draw clues in abundance for tomorrow’s Silver and Gold Cups. David Nicholls is always to be feared at this meeting and his Amenable, going from stall 21, is attempting a four-timer. However, I prefer the chances of his other runner COURAGEOUS, housed next door in stall 20. He was caught for speed over the minimum trip at Haydock last time, but ran on impressively and will relish this extra furlong and the forecast good-to-soft ground.
Finally, if you don’t have plans this evening, tune in to Attheraces and watch Roger Charlton’s WALCOT SQUARE win the 8.50pm contest. The three-year-old gelding won over course and distance a couple of weeks ago and looks pretty well treated off just a 2lb higher mark. Our selection raced lazily that day, is bound to be sharpened up by the application of first time blinkers and his stable couldn’t be in better form.
