Football fans descend on Mayfair hedgie
HEDGE fund Sisu Capital was targeted by a group of angry football fans last night, as Coventry City supporters protested outside the firm’s Mayfair offices.
The Sky Blues supporters are furious at Sisu – which took over the struggling midlands club in late 2007 – for moving the team’s home games to Northampton, over 30 miles away from Coventry.
Sisu has been engaged in a bitter dispute with Arena Coventry Limited, which owns the Ricoh Arena where the club played its home fixtures from August 2005 until the end of last season.
The protesters, named Keep Cov in Cov, are demanding that Sisu sell up to an owner that can help the club escape from its financial difficulties (it fell into liquidation earlier this month) and return to the Ricoh.
“We’ll keep coming down to London,” group leader Michael Orton told City A.M., insisting that ongoing protests will be held outside Sisu’s offices near Marble Arch. “This is like a nagging toothache for the owners – every time they think it’s gone away, we’ll come back again.”
