Villa boss O’Neill looking to sell
ASTON VILLA boss Martin O’Neill admits he will have to sell if he wants to buy in the January transfer window.
O’Neill, whose side face Blackburn in tonight’s Carling Cup semi-final second leg, spent around £40m on signings in the summer.
“We are not looking at players at this minute because we have to sell,” he said. “Do I have to sell to buy? We wouldn’t be the only club in that position.”
Pulis cool on Beattie exit talk
STOKE have dismissed reports that Wolves boss Mick McCarthy want to sign unsettled striker James Beattie.
Beattie’s future has been in doubt since a row with Tony Pulis, but the manager said: “I’d expect Mick to ring if they were interested, and he hasn’t.”
Black Stars into last eight
GHANA booked their place in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over 10-man Burkina Faso.
A 30th-minute header from Andre Ayew was enough to send the Black Stars into the last eight, where they will face hosts Angola.
