Pompey free to sign players
PORTSMOUTH boss Avram Grant faces a race against time to sign players after the club’s transfer embargo was lifted.
The ban was imposed in October because of money the club owed but they are now allowed to make loan and free transfer signings until the window closes on 1 February. Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie said: “We are delighted that the transfer embargo has been lifted by the Premier League.”
Bruce upset at Cabanas shooting
SUNDERLAND boss Steve Bruce has called the shooting of Paraguay striker Salvador Cabanas, a played he wanted to sign, “a tragedy”.
Cabanas, 29, is fighting for his life in intensive care and still has a bullet lodged in his skull after the attack in Mexico City on Monday morning.
“He is a fantastic football player,” said Bruce. “What’s happened to him is an absolute tragedy.”
