FOOD & BOOZE NEWS
VIVEK SINGH CITY POPUP
The City gets a pop-up with a (sort of) al fresco offering from Cinnamon Kitchen major domo Vivek Singh. Lasting until the end of September, Cinnamon Square can be found in Devonshire Square (just outside the Kitchen), with Bengali crab cod cakes, Bombay spiced tilapia, Hyderabadi spiced duck pao and aubergine masala among the tapas-style small plates on offer. Yes, it’s under the Devonshire Square glass conservatory roof, but it still has that outdoor feeling, and is open all day. www.cinnamon-kitchen.com
HEATHROW HILTON TO GET SPICE NAMASTE
Continuing the Indian theme, Cyrus Todiwala, the chef behind one of the City’s favourite restaurants, Café Spice Namasté, is bringing his pan-Indian cuisine to Heathrow. The Hilton hotel at the airport’s Terminal Five will be opening Mr Todiwala’s Kitchen next month, with menu highlights including Parsee spiced potato and egg speciality papaeta purr eedu, Todiwala’s unusual take on dhaansaak and his mind-blowingly hot vindaloo using belly and shoulder of organic British lop pork. The hotel will also be opening a brand new spa. www.hilton.co.uk
FENG SUSHI AT BILLINGSGATE
Canary Wharfers take note: Feng Sushi, the fast casual Japanese restaurant chain, is opening a seventh site in Billingsgate fish market. It’ll only have six covers, so the emphasis will be on takeaway sushi, as well as operating a full delivery service. And of course, fish can hardly come fresher than straight from the market itself. www.fengsushi.co.uk
