Flybe signs a £3.3bn deal for 140 jets
SMALLER passenger jets were the order of the day at the Farnborough Air Show yesterday as regional airline Flybe signed a bumper deal with Brazil’s Embraer worth $5bn (£3.27bn).
Exeter-based Flybe signed a deal for 140 new aircraft with Embraer yesterday, including a firm order for 35 Embraer 175 planes worth $1.3bn.
The agreement gives Flybe the option of purchasing a further 65 aircraft for $2.3bn as well as purchase options on another 40 aircraft worth $1.4bn. Jim French, chief executive of Flybe said: “The 175 will give [us] significant added capacity and is particularly suited to the sector lengths prevalent in Europe that we are most interested in exploiting.”
Airbus agreed deals with Chilean based LAN and Asia’s Hong Kong Airlines yesterday worth a total of $9.9bn.
Meanwhile, Boeing’s 737-800 jets, which carry between 150 and 189 passengers were in high demand after the manufacturer signed deals with Air Lease Corporation for 60 aircraft, while Avolon bought 12. Boeing also offered three Dreamliner planes to Royal Jordanian for $500m.
