Clipper Wharf: Luxury flats at former News International HQ and offices of News of the World in Wapping go on sale with million pound price tags
Flats on the site of "fortress Wapping", the former headquarters of Rupert Murdoch's News International, which was home to newspapers the Sun, Times and the now-defunct News of The World, are about to go on the market.
Developers are preparing to put the million-pound flats at Clipper Wharf up for sale, three years after the media company sold off its former offices to housebuilder Berkeley Group for £150m, after 25 years calling Wapping home.
Gone are the printing presses and executive offices, to be replaced by "Manhattan-style" luxury flats with "hotel" facilities such as a 24-hour concierge, which are due to be completed in early 2017.
A selection of 49 one, two and three-bedroom flats, including seven penthouse apartments, will go on the market on Saturday, with a starting price of £660,000 and running into the millions of pounds.
Clipper Wharf is just one of the London Docks developments being built on the former 15-acre News International headquarters which in total will include 1,800 new homes and 200,000 sq ft of commercial space.
Located in the prime spot between the City and Canary Wharf, close to Tower Bridge and St Katharine's Docks, the site was nicknamed Murdoch's "fortress Wapping" during a bitter year-long dispute between the media mogul and the the unions when he sought to close down its printing presses in the 1980s.
