Fergie: Nani can become new Ronaldo
MARSEILLE vs MAN UNITED
MANCHESTER UNITED manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Nani is showing signs that he is capable of emulating the success Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo spearheaded United’s successful Champions League campaign in 2008 and so dramatic has Nani’s transformation from bit-part player to automatic starter this season been that it has taken even Ferguson by surprise.
Ahead of tonight’s Champions League last 16 first leg tie in Marseille, Ferguson said: “Nani has been fantastic this season. He has scored goals and created them. He has made an amazing contribution.
“But Cristiano went on to become the best player in the world. The challenge for any player is to improve as much as that. Nani is showing signs of it at the moment.”
Ferguson also revealed he is hopeful that veteran midfielder Paul Scholes, 36, will follow Ryan Giggs’ example and sign a new one-year contract with the club.
