Fabregas to come back and haunt former club in London derby clash
BEN CLEMINSON PREVIEWS SUNDAY’S BIG PREMIER LEAGUE ACTION
ARSENE Wenger is said to have turned down the opportunity to take Cesc Fabregas back to the Emirates this summer following a rather ill-fated spell at Barcelona, paving the way for the Spaniard to join Chelsea.
It’s proved a shrewd bit of business from Jose Mourinho, as Fabregas has sparkled. His six assists and two goals in the league have played a large part in helping the Blues take 16 points from 18 available.
The table-toppers host Arsenal, the only other unbeaten team in the league, on Sunday afternoon, and it looks a fantastic opportunity for them to consolidate their lead with another victory.
Arsenal thrashed Galatasaray on Wednesday night, but the Turkish team have never won on English soil and are poor. Chelsea will be a different kettle of fish.
A 6-0 drubbing at the hands of these opponents in March meant Wenger’s 1000th game in charge of the Gunners was instantly forgettable. While a margin that big looks inconceivable, I expect Chelsea to win this comfortably.
Sporting Index have Chelsea’s supremacy trading at 0.9-1.1 and that is worth buying. Led by Diego Costa, the team have hit nine goals in their three home league games.
Arsenal have drawn four of their six games and Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez and Yaya Sanogo have not picked up the goalscoring thread in the league in the absence of Olivier Giroud. Welbeck’s midweek hat-trick will have him full of confidence, but he should be kept under wraps by John Terry and Gary Cahill.
Successive clean sheets shows Mourinho’s defence is getting its act together after an uncharacteristically leaky opening to the season. Arsenal have also failed to breach Chelsea’s backline in the last three meetings.
Spread bettors should keep Fabregas onside. His player performance can be bought at 108 and, considering the form he’s in and how he’ll want to show his former club what they are missing, that looks a decent bet.
