FA Cup glory may not be enough to keep undecided Tevez at Eastlands
MANCHESTER CITY captain Carlos Tevez has cast a shadow over his side’s landmark FA Cup success by refusing to guarantee he will be at the club at the start of next season.
The Argentine forward’s future has been a matter of conjecture all season – he handed in a transfer request last December, which he later withdrew, and has been involved in a number of spats with manager Roberto Mancini – but will again finish the season at the club’s top scorer and was outstanding in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Stoke at Wembley.
With City’s 35-year trophy drought ended by one swing of Yaya Toure’s left boot and a place in next season’s Champions League already guaranteed there would be plenty for Tevez to look forward to were he to remain at Eastlands, but he admits living so far away from his family could prove a decisive factor in him leaving.
“It’s difficult to be far from my daughters,” said Tevez (left).
“I will think hard about what is best for me, first I want to clear my head.
“I’m very well, very calm, but l also want to make it clear that I have no problem with the board, nor with Roberto [Mancini].
“As there has been a lot of talk that I have a problem with Roberto, I want to clear that up.
“If I stay at City I have to start thinking about what I can bear and it’s very difficult, that’s the truth.”
Director of football Brian Marwood wants Tevez to reflect on what he would giving up if he decides to leave.
Marwood believes the club is going to be “an interesting place” in the coming years.
“We are working hard to keep Carlos Tevez, as we are with everybody,” he said. “I just hope Carlos reflects on the season, reflects on yesterday, reflects on the fact we are going to be playing Champions League football and thinks: ‘this is something I want to be part of’.”
