Ex-City girl is boxing clever
SHOREDITCH trend bazaar, Boxpark, saw the launch of ex-Goldman Sachs employee Gemma Bellman’s new venture last night.
The former Sachser has developed an app called BeautySpotter, which claims to be the first mobile app for hair and beauty discovery. It allows users to browse nearby salons by looking at images of “looks” the salons have produced – it feels a bit like Instagram for beauty… but a bit more useful.
Bellman is celebrating the launch with a three day pop-up, offering free treatments by some of the salons involved (including WAH Nails and Soho House’s Cheeky Parlour). “I can definitely see my old friends at Goldman using this,” Bellman told The Capitalist. “We’re really excited to have an offline launch for this app – the services we promote are offline so it makes sense.”
Bellman worked at Goldman between 2008 and 2009, describing it as a turbulent year (no kidding) but says it gave her the “fire in her belly” to do something she was passionate about.
