Eurotunnel slashes track charges
Eurotunnel announced yesterday that it will cut track access charges by up to 50 per cent, following an investigation by the European Commission (EC). The Chunnel operator hopes the move will help to double rail freight traffic over the next five years. According to the EC, spare capacity in the tunnel is predominantly down to high track access charges. Eurotunnel wil reduce charges for off-peak hours by 25 per cent, while the toll for weekend maintenance will be cut by a third.
