European Commission telecoms laws come into force across EU
NEW laws will come into play across Europe tomorrow aiming at increasing competition in the telecoms sector.
The European Commission rules include the right for customers to switch telecoms operators in just one day without changing their phone number, the right to more clarity about the services customers are offered and better protection of personal data online.
They will also outlaw contracts lasting more than 24 months and force operators to offer 12-month contracts. The main UK operators say they already adhere to the rules.
The Commission says the rules will help to create an even playing field across Europe and has threatened to launch infringement proceedings against any countries that have not implemented the changes.
