Epsom Derby in time shift
THE INVESTEC Derby at Epsom will start half an hour later than usual this year as organisers look to maximise its television audience.
The Derby is due to begin at 4:30pm on Saturday 6 June, while the Oaks, the Friday highlight of the two-day meeting, also moves back 30 minutes. Both races remain fifth of seven contests on the cards.
Channel 4’s Ed Havard said: “We welcome the later start times for the Oaks and Derby, which will enable these blue-riband events to be accessible to the widest afternoon audience possible.”
The Jockey Club’s Rupert Trevelyan said the change in timings would “embellish our customers’ experience of the festival and the greatest flat race in the world”.
