England stars Sterling, Walker and Maguire named in Euro 2020 team of the tournament – but no place for top scorers Ronaldo and Schick
Three England players have been named in the official Euro 2020 team of the tournament.
Raheem Sterling, Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire were all selected by governing body Uefa’s technical observers.
Sterling scored three goals and proved a constant attacking threat on England’s run to the final, where they lost on penalties to Italy.
Walker shone at right-back, playing six of England’s seven games including every minute in the knockout rounds.
Maguire makes the team of the tournament despite only returning from injury in the final group fixture against the Czech Republic.
Champions Italy dominate the official XI, with five players including goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, their hero in the penalty shoot-out.
Defenders Leonardo Bonucci, Leonardo Spinazzola, midfielder Jorginho and forward Federico Chiesa also made the team of the tournament.
Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku, Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Spain youngster Pedri complete the line-up.
But there is no place for Cristiano Ronaldo or Czech forward Patrik Schick, despite being joint top scorers at Euro 2020 with five goals.
Uefa’s technical observers include former England coach Fabio Capello, current West Ham boss David Moyes, ex-Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka and former Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane.
