Eduardo and Gibbs boosts lift Gunners
ARSENAL have been handed a double boost after striker Eduardo signed a new contract and defender Kieran Gibbs was told his foot is not broken.
Eduardo, who is set for a major role in the absence of Robin van Persie, has signed a long-term deal to extend his stay at Emirates Stadium.
The Croatian has been a fringe figure this season but insists that, with Van Persie sidelined by ruptured ankle ligaments, he is ready to play a starring role.
“I feel strong in my body and I feel ready to play 90 minutes every three days if it’s needed,” he said. “I hope to stay at Arsenal for as long as I can.”
Gibbs, who was set to come in for the injured Gael Clichy, sparked fears he had broken a metatarsal when he was hurt on England Under-21 duty this week. But Arsenal doctors say he has suffered only severe bruising and expect his lay-off to be “short-term”.
