Edmond de Rothschild elects chairman’s wife Ariane as new CEO

Private Swiss banking group Edmond de Rothschild has appointed the wife of the chairman, Ariane de Rothschild, as its new chairwoman of the executive committee – effectively chief executive officer. She will replace current CEO Christophe de Backer, who will step down on 31 January. Chairman of the Swiss private bank and asset manager Benjamin de Rothschild said: “I have asked my wife Ariane de Rothschild to oversee our group as chairwoman of the executive committee. I am confident that she has all the personal and professional qualities to put in place the necessary changes to transform our group into an even more modern, dynamic and successful business – continuing our family tradition.” The group’s board of directors unanimously supported the decision. The company currently manages €133.6bn (£104bn) of assets.
