Ed Miliband admits government failings as he launches campaign
ED MILIBAND, the former climate change secretary, has admitted that Labour lost its way in government and became “caretakers” instead of “idealists”.
Launching his leadership campaign with an impressive speech at the Fabian Society, he also conceded that the party had failed to face up to the concerns that trouble its traditional voters, such as immigration.
The 40-year old, who will fight his older brother and former foreign secretary David Miliband for the Labour crown, is expected to position himself to the left of his sibling.
Ed Balls, the former children’s secretary will also announce his own campaign imminently, while ex-health secretary Andy Burnham has not ruled himself out. Harriet Harman is leading the party in the interim.
