EC lifts restrictions on Sky Italia
The European Commission yesterday ruled that the competitive landscape in Italy had changed enough that Italian pay-TV service Sky Italia should be allowed to bid for a digital terrestrial TV frequency, removing a restriction placed on the satellite-TV company since 2003. The ruling came with the condition that Sky Italia, 100 per cent owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, use the frequency to offer free programming until 2015.
