EasyJet boosts traffic and passenger load
BUDGET airline easyJet said yesterday that it carried 5.86m passengers in July, an increase of eight per cent on the same month last year.
The firm also saw a lift in load factor – the proportion of passengers to available seats – to 92.5 per cent, an increase of 0.8 percentage points on the previous year. EasyJet’s rolling totals show 57.8m passengers have flown with it in the last 12 months, a jump of 7.5 per cent on the corresponding period last year.
The firm saw strong demand on beach routes due to an extended period of poor weather in northern Europe throughout June. But the boost in passenger numbers was not as high as last month’s 9.7 per cent increase. A spokesperson attributed the drop to people taking holidays earlier in order to be back in the UK for the Olympics, and said the airline expected fewer people to be flying out of Britain during the Games.
