Dravid wants India to copy England’s example
ENGLAND’S domination of India in their own backyard could be a blessing in disguise for Indian cricket, according to their former captain Rahul Dravid.
The tourists won the second and third Tests in India comfortably and will become the first England team to win a series in the country since 1985 if they avoid defeat in the fourth Test in Nagpur, which starts on Thursday.
The Indian team has come under fire for their performances and Dravid, who scored 13,288 runs in a 16-year international career, believes it is time for them to look again at how they develop talent – citing England’s domestic game and academy system as the perfect example.
“Successful teams have a group of players who come through together and peak at the same time and I think having A tours and the academy system is becoming important,” he said.
“England have been pretty good with that in the way the academy travels to different parts of the world. That is something India can learn from England.”
Captain Alastair Cook, meanwhile, has insisted that no one is getting carried away by England’s last two performances.
“If we have another bad performance, it all flags up again,” the opening batsman said. “It would be nice if we were all going home tomorrow, and could be smiling. But it’s not done, and we can’t get too carried away.”
