Disney share price jumps after it announces there’s going to be a Frozen 2
Parents everywhere, rejoice – for there's about to be another round of dresses to buy, catchphrases to learn and soundtracks to listen to endlessly in the car – for Disney has announced plans to do a sequel to Frozen.
The news was announced last night at Disney's annual shareholder meeting in San Francisco, with Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter confirming that Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck will direct again, although he didn't give us a date (we'll let it go).
Shares in Disney jumped 4.2 per cent on the news, closing at $107.17.
As of March last year when it was released in Japan, Frozen is the highest-grossing animated film of all time and the fifth highest-grossing film of all time, having made more than $1.3bn (£874m) at the box office. At one point, it was the top animated movie in 27 countries.
Disney also used the opportunity to confirm two more Star Wars movies, including a spin-off called Rogue One, to be directed by Godzilla creator Gareth Edwards, which will be released in December next year, after the company's $4bn acquisition of the franchise's maker, Lucasfilm, in 2012.
