Disgraced agent Majeed and Pakistan players to learn fate
DISGRACED Pakistan cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammand Amir, as well as agent Mazhar Majeed will learn today whether they will spend time behind bars for the part they played in the spot-fixing scandal.
Butt and Asif were both found guilty of conspiracy to cheat and conspiracy to accept corrupt payments charge by a jury at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday. Amir had already pleaded guilty to both charges in September, while it was revealed yesterday that Majeed had also done the same.
During another day of revelations Mr Justice Cooke dismissed Amir’s claim that he had only been involved in fixing one match. The court also heard Asif was paid £65,000 to stop him switching to a rival match-fixing ring.
Majeed, meanwhile, claimed former captain Butt was the ring leader in the conspiracy, introducing him to an Indian match fixer.
