David Mayhew Jr joins Barclays
EVERYONE from the City’s gossips to its financial historians have been treated with an exciting news titbit. Robert Mayhew, progeny of City veteran David Mayhew, has joined Barclays’ corporate broking team in a senior role, bringing years of experience from Credit Suisse with him. Mayhew junior may not yet have the kind of cachet his father has, but is well-respected among his City peers, having worked on placings for Thomas Cook and Ophir Energy and having weathered the storm with the shelved IPO of Fairfield Energy – before leaving Credit Suisse in mid-2013.
His father David Mayhew is practically City royalty – having spent more than 40 years at Cazenove (surviving the dreaded 1986 Guinness trading scandal) and worked on countless takeover battles. A septuagenarian, he stepped down as chairman of JP Morgan Cazenove in 2011.
