Cowes Week Diary: A win for Lucas on Ladies Day would be great
IT’S FUNNY to be a sailor, full of anticipation, butterflies going, then the start gun sounds and you barely move against the tide.
The X One Design class began on the squadron start line yesterday, in light breeze with plenty of tide against them making moving forward a slow process.
I think that one of my favourite quotes of the day came from an XOD sailor. They are last to start and many would think it’s good to get the extra lie in, but he said, “the problem with our start time is, we miss both lunch and tea”.
Today is Ladies Day and one of the more famous skippers here is London Paralympic gold medallist Helena Lucas, who is sailing an SB20.
It would be great if she could get a race win today in that very competitive fleet.
