Confident City workers seek new employers
RENEWED growth in the Square Mile led to a surge in City workers signing up to look for a new job last month, recruiters Morgan McKinley said today.
It found 6,378 looking for a new job in December, up 51 per cent on the year.
Typically when times are tough workers keep their heads down in their existing jobs, but when conditions improve they look for a new role.
Those who did find a new job in the month saw their salaries rise by an average of 18 per cent.
“This year has been the year for compliance professionals,” said Hakan Enver from Morgan McKinley Financial Services.
“While we continue to also see demand outstripping supply for skilled IT executives, regulatory demands and enhanced reporting needs are pushing compliance to the top of hiring agendas in the City. This is a trend we see continuing well into 2015.”
However, he also warned that uncertainty over the global economic outlook abroad, and the risks around the general election at home, could knock City firms’ hiring decisions this year.
