Concerned Redknapp has to sell before he can buy
TOTTENHAM manager Harry Redknapp admits his summer rebuilding can only commence once he has completed a significant clear-out.
Redknapp commands one of the largest squads in the Premier League and has been told by the club’s board he must cut the playing staff before adding to it.
Tottenham have already dismissed Chelsea’s bid of £22m for their playmaker Luka Modric, but Redknapp revealed he may have to cut loose as many as five first team squad members over the course of the summer.
He said: “There is nothing happening in the transfer market. I need to sell four or five players to bring in funds.
“The chairman has made it clear we need to move a few players before we can start doing any business.
“I keep seeing us linked with this player and that, but unless we reduce our squad numbers we will stay quiet in the market.”
Meanwhile, Redknapp’s north London counterpart at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, insists he is intent on keeping left-back Gael Clichy a the club. The France international, out of contract next summer, has been targeted by Liverpool and Roma.
