Commonwealth Games boost as Farah pledges to race in Glasgow
DOUBLE Olympic champion Mo Farah has finally committed to competing at this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow – but has not yet chosen his events.
The Briton, who won 5,000m and 10,000m gold at London 2012, has recently stepped up to marathon distance but is planning a return to shorter races in Scotland.
Farah’s announcement ends months of uncertainty over his availability for England’s team and comes just two months before the action in Glasgow begins. “I will be running in the Commonwealth Games this year,” he wrote on Twitter. “Haven’t decided which events to compete in yet. 1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m. Will let you know as soon as I decide.”
Farah, 31, is yet to win a Commonwealth Games medal, having finished ninth in 5,000m in Melbourne in 2006 and pulled out of the 2010 competition in Delhi four years ago citing fatigue.
He broke Steve Cram’s 28-year-old 1,500m British record last year and finished eighth in last month’s London Marathon in his debut over the full distance.
